Cebu Pacific to mount flights to Camiguin in November after upgraded airport reopens
MANILA, Philippines—Cebu Pacific announced new flights to Camiguin starting November this year after the government reopened the province’s expanded gateway.
In a statement, Cebu Pacific announced the launch of flights between Manila and Camiguin on Nov. 15 and restart of Cebu-Camiguin on Nov. 9.
The budget airline’s Manila-Camiguin flights will operate twice per week (Monday and Friday) while Cebu-Camiguin will fly every Tuesday and Saturday.
Both routes will be operated by Cebu Pacific’s wholly-owned subsidiary Cebgo using its fleet of ATR aircraft.
“We are very happy to launch these direct flights in time with the gradual reopening of domestic tourism,” Xander Lao, chief commercial officer at Cebu Pacific, said in a statement.
“Camiguin is another underrated gem that we believe travelers will enjoy discovering,” asid Lao.
“At the same time, these direct connections will enable residents to fly to and from Cebu and Manila conveniently, be it for leisure or business purposes,” he added.
Passengers traveling to Camiguin are required to create an account on cleancamiguinqr.com and upload necessary documents, like a filled-out health declaration form, Cebu Pacific said.
They must also provide proof of complete COVID vaccination and present a negative RT-PCR test result taken at least 72 hours before departure if from Luzon and 48 hours if traveling from Visayas and Mindanao.
The Camiguin Airport reopened to visitors on Monday (Oct. 25) after the completion of comprehensive upgrades by the Department of Transportation and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
Located in Mambajao, Camiguin, an island off the coast of northern Mindanao, the air gateway’s passenger terminal was expanded to accommodate 200 passengers at any given time from the previous capacity of 66.
This will also allow the gateway to accommodate about 300,000 passengers per year.
The DOTr said future plans in the pipeline were the expansion of Camiguin Airport’s check-in and pre departure area, the provision of a control tower, and the improvement of vehicle parking areas.
