MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) inaugurated the expanded passenger terminal of the Zamboanga Airport on Tuesday (Sept. 28).
According to the DOTr, the project increased the airport’s capacity to 750 passengers from the previous 500 passengers.
The DOTr also added a so-called GAD multipurpose hall and “malasakit hall.”
The newly-constructed GAD Multipurpose Hall has a total floor area of 563 square meters with a roof deck, it added.
These were part of government efforts to help revive air transport and tourism, CAAP chief of staff Danjun Lucas said in a statement.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade also noted this will be followed up by another phase of improvements.
These involve the repair and asphalt overlay of the runway, and the grading of the runway strip to improve flight safety at the gateway.
