Globe Business supports MSMEs in future-proofing their businesses in this year’s G Summit

Globe Business recently hosted their biggest MSME conference to date, called G Summit, aimed at assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from all over the country in future-proofing their businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Held last September 18, the event was attended by over 800 Filipino MSME founders, leaders, and aspiring entrepreneurs nationwide.  The Summit was a key part of Globe’s annual 917 festivities, the time of year when Globe shows its appreciation to its loyal customers, many of whom have been with Globe for years using the company’s original and longstanding 917 prefix. 

Microenterprises compose about 952,969 based on recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and more than 63 percent of the total workforce in the country. For the local economy to thrive, enterprises of all sizes need support in order to keep growing their business and taking care of their people.  

With the global pandemic driving a shift to digital channels and making physical transactions less desirable, Globe saw an opportunity to help businesses adapt to new ways of serving customers while still creating meaningful connections.  Always searching for ways to uplift Filipinos’ daily lives, Globe saw G Summit as a venue for business owners to learn from industry experts and acclaimed entrepreneurs, and to network with peers and share their knowledge with one another.

Actor and entrepreneur Marvin Agustin headlined the sessions as keynote speaker, as he discussed how he found opportunities in scaling his various food businesses from home and how he was able to feed his passions and entrepreneurial spirit. 

Independent analyst, anthropologist, and award-winning author Brian Solis also served as keynote speaker while Spring Valley CEO and Founder and Globe Business Ambassador Jonathan de Luzuriaga, talked about changing the game for businesses in the new normal. Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Business Banking Head Eric Luchangco also discussed leadership in a transitional period.

In her speech to the conference’s attendees, Globe Head of Small, Medium Business Group KD Dizon said, “With the knowledge and experience our industry experts bring, we hope that you uncover opportunities and gain inspiration through the discussions on leadership, technology and digitalization, productivity in a remote work setup, human resources and people management, and practical marketing.” 

Last year, Globe Business focused on helping MSMEs pivot their business to survive and thrive. But due to the sustained impact the pandemic brings, MSMEs are evolving to suit the new normal and are now looking for new opportunities to grow their revenue.  

For this year, the group focused on helping MSMEs look forward and arm their businesses against challenges brought by the current times. In line with their #TuloyTayoSMEs program, Globe Business led learning sessions on new market trends, best practices in working remotely, and digital solutions that mobilized different business operations.  

Partners from Mynt (GCash), Facebook, Microsoft, Zoom, Canva, Getcraft, Wunderman-Thompson, Business Maker Academy, Squadzip, Philippine Computer Emergency Response, The Yashua Group, SKY Law, HYBrain and the National Association of Data Protection Officers of the Philippines also shared industry trends that MSMEs can leverage on in growing their individual businesses. 

Building capacities and equipping MSMEs with the right tools

President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ayala Corporation Fernando Zobel de Ayala shared, “Entrepreneurs and MSMEs have always been a key pillar and partner for all of us at the Ayala Group. Our different companies continue to support and partner with businesses of all sizes.”

Zobel de Ayala also shared how there are currently over 250,000 small, medium enterprise businesses within the Ayala ecosystem.
