Converge ICT to build P 1-B data center in Cebu

Converge ICT Solutions Inc., one of the country’s leading fiber internet companies, is building a P1-billion data center in Cebu to support its expansion in Visayas and Mindanao.

Converge CEO and cofounder Dennis Anthony Uy of Pampanga said the 6-story building would rise in Mandauae City and construction was slated to begin within the year.

It will have 300 server racks and will include a contact center that will employ thousands of workers, he added.

The investment comes on top of Converge’s P6-billion domestic undersea cable project that will connect Visayas and Mindanao to its national fiber and distribution network.

Uy said the move was a strategic bet as it seeks to widen its presence across the Philippines and reach a target to cover more than half of the country’s households by 2025.

“Our multi-billion peso investment in the Visayas region is a signal of our commitment to provide the best fiber broadband service to the market,” Uy said.

“For our residential customers, we are glad to be able to offer them fast and reliable broadband plans at affordable prices. For our enterprise customers, we are heavily investing in digital infrastructure to cater to your increasing data service requirements,” he added.

Converge recently held its “grand launch” in Cebu City and Mandaue City. It intends to roll out in Talisay, Cordova and Lapu-Lapu in the coming weeks.

“This data center is quite important especially for the Visayas as the demand for digital services and data requirements are going up,” Uy said.

The facility also serves the needs of business clients in the region through network management services, multi-homed network, disaster recovery services, network redundancy solutions, 24/7 monitoring, co-location and local connectivity. INQ
