Globe more than doubled new cell site construction in Q1 2021

Industry giant Globe Telecom more than doubled the construction of new cell sites in the first quarter of 2021, part of a record P70-billion spending program for the year.

The company announced after its annual shareholders’ meeting on Tuesday the completion of 318 new cell sites, up 152 percent from those built in the same period of 2020.

Reinventing experience

“Armed with our purpose, Globe is resolutely marching forward, staying attuned to the new customer and reinventing their experience to make us more relevant,” Globe CEO Ernest Cu said in a statement.

The company said 4G/LTE and 5G sites alone reached 7,065 locations during the first three months of the year. This was up 245 percent year-on-year.

At the same time, fiber internet installations increased during the period as Globe rolled out 287,000 new lines, an increase of 212 percent.

Globe also shared updates on its COVID-19 donation efforts. The group announced a combined P1.3 billion in “services and assistance packages for its stakeholders” last year.

For the first quarter of 2021, some P3.4 million was donated from subscribers via their rewards points.

Globe also extended RT-PCR testing to its employees, families and dependents, as well as vendor-partners for their identified critical workforce. INQ
