UnionBank announces appointment of new independent directors of the board
Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), one of the country’s biggest Universal Banks, has appointed Manuel (“Manolo”) D. Escueta and Josiah L. Go as Independent Directors of the Bank at the recent Annual Shareholders Meeting, held last April 23, 2021, via a fully digital platform.
Manuel D. Escueta
Escueta is a seasoned Consumer Marketing leader and trailblazer, whose career in Procter & Gamble (“P&G”) covered Senior Marketing Positions in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Australia. His last assignment was General Advertising Manager for P&G Asia, the first Filipino to have reached this level.
After retiring from P&G, he had a brief stint with United Laboratories, Inc. He then joined Pascual Laboratories where he subsequently served as President & CEO. He continues to further share and sharpen his craft as Marketing adviser at Mega Global Corporation, which manufactures and markets Mega Sardines, the dominant leader in canned sardines category.
Escueta sits on the board of several Filipino-owned corporations. He also serves as a Board Trustee of PAREF School for Boys and of EduChild Foundation, where he and his wife, Marie, were the President Couple for 15 years until mid-2019.
He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the College of Business Administration at the University of the Philippines.
Josiah L. Go
Josiah Go, on the other hand, is one of the Philippines’ most respected marketing gurus, being the most awarded business educator in the country.
As a thought leader with 18 bestselling marketing and entrepreneurship books, Go has taught at the De La Salle University and at the Ateneo de Manila University. He is an Executive Scholar of the Kellogg Business School (in Marketing and Sales Management) as well as the MIT Sloan (in Strategy and Innovation). He also took advance marketing programs at Harvard, Wharton, and the London Business School.
Currently, he is the Chairman and Chief Innovation Strategist of Mansmith and Fielders, Inc., and Chairman of Waters Philippines and sits on the Board of over a dozen companies.
As a new independent director of the board, Josiah will undoubtedly add significant value to the Bank, owing to his extensive experience in business marketing and in the innovation sector which we increasingly serve. His breadth of marketing and tech knowledge, academe background, and many leadership roles across industries strongly complement our board, whose ongoing guidance and support have been invaluable.
“We are excited about Manolo Escueta’s and Josiah Go’s joining UnionBank as they will bring a more customer-focused perspective to the Board, which in turn, should help the Bank make sure that ‘No One is Left Behind’ as we ‘Tech-Up Pilipinas’ (or “the Philippines”),” said UnionBank President and CEO, Edwin R. Bautista.
