MANILA, Philippines – Dr. Rogelyn Marcadejas is a general dentist and has been in practice for almost three decades. Aside from being a primary dental care provider for families in Novaliches, Quezon City, she is a hands-on wife and mom at home. While juggling the roles of being a mom and a dentist, she is a Good Guy—advocating oral health and finding time to volunteer in her community.
In an interview, she shared that her love for volunteering started when she was encouraged by a priest to serve in their parish. She was reluctant at first but eventually, she gained the confidence to serve and share her time. From serving her parish, she extended help in her village through the different community programs conducted by their homeowners’ association where she is also an officer.
She considers herself a late-bloomer when it comes to volunteering, but no one’s too old or too young to volunteer. As someone who has gained professional experience, she is passionate about sharing her knowledge and values with younger people whom she hopes to develop. She is eager to share her talent and treasures through outreach activities in situations where help is most needed. Her “malasakit sa kapwa” guides her desire to volunteer, and she hopes to instill the same desire in the people she helped along the way.
At present, Dr. Marcadejas joins the home of the Good Guys—SMDC, not just as an investor and resident of Trees Residences, but also as a partner in taking care of fellow residents. Last February 19, 2021, she volunteered together with the other doctors and nurses in one of the Good Guys programs—the Health and Wellness Caravan hosted by SMDC in partnership with SM Foundation. She gave free consultations to residents so that they, too, will prioritize oral hygiene—which most people often overlook in achieving overall health especially in this time of the pandemic.
The Good Guys is SMDC’s campaign for nurturing happy, healthy, secure, and thriving neighborhoods that support one another with the hopes of building a community of Good Guys. Aside from developing integrated lifestyle districts for work-life balance and well-appointed amenities perfect for co-sharing spaces, the campaign also translates in the form of all-inclusive programs for SMDC residents like the Health and Wellness Caravan where Dr. Marcadejas is a volunteer doctor. Finally, when asked to share about her volunteer work experience with The Good Guys, Dr. Marcadejas shared:
