If the searing weather for the past few days is any indication of how the next months would be like, we might as well brace ourselves for another sweltering dry season.
Here are some quick home remedies to help you deal with the inconveniences, such as dizzy spells, headaches and heat rashes, of the hot days that are coming.
Cold foot bath
Get a good-sized basin, fill this with cold water and add cubes of ice. Soak your feet for 20 minutes, while you’re catching up on your K-drama fix on Netflix. The cold foot bath cools the body down and helps you relax. Add a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil for more cooling effect.
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water. It is by far the easiest way to cool your body down. Coconut water is a great option to rehydrate and refresh your body, too. Snack on fruits that have high water content such as watermelon and strawberries.
Go easy on the coffee, sodas and alcoholic drinks though, as these are diuretics and advance dehydration in the body.
Keep it light and loose
Opt for loose and light-colored clothes vs those that would surely make you sweat more and even irritate your skin, causing heat rash. Choose moisture-wicking clothes such those made in natural fabrics like cotton and linen as these are breathable. Certain polyesters and synthetic fabrics that are designed for sporting and fitness activities are great for the hot weather as well.
Cooling packs
Keep an ice pack or a bag of cooling gel with you at all times. This will be your best friend when you need a quick cool down and when soothing irritated skin due to the heat. A face cloth soaked in ice cold water may also do the trick.
