Broadcast company CNN Philippines announced it would let go some of its employees starting March 16, in another round of downsizings exposing the COVID-19 pandemic’s heavy toll on the news industry.
The impending layoffs were announced in a memorandum sent out to CNN employees early Thursday and made public initially by Buhay Media, an independent organization maintained by the Talents Association of GMA Network.
The Inquirer saw a copy of the memo, which read in part that “this has been a very difficult decision but one that needs to be done so we can continue to serve our audiences as a trusted source of news and information on free TV and digital.”
The management said it would be having conversations with those affected “over the next few days … to discuss how we can best support them as they move on.” —KRIXIA SUBINGSUBING
