Eastern Comms subscriber base expands

Eastern Communications, a company jointly owned by PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom, added more subscribers this year over 2019 as it rolled out more services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the company said subscribers grew by 7 percent year-on-year. This was from the segments focused on home productivity tools, residential internet, and enterprise connectivity. It did not provide additional details.

“Like many other companies, Eastern Communications was also impacted by the pandemic, but we took it as a challenge to be proactive and educate people on the solutions they could leverage on to be agile and steady in this era,” said Michael Castañeda, Eastern sales division head.

The company also benefited from efforts to expand in Region 4A, Region 5 and Region 6.Eastern was among the companies acquired by PLDT and Globe in 2016 after the two joined forces to buyout conglomerate San Miguel Corp.’s telecommunications assets.

The company’s service areas are in Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, South and North Luzon.
