Leading Philippine telecommunications company Globe Telecom wins the Cloudera 2020 Data Impact Awards for the Connect the Data Lifecycle category which is given to the organization that best tackled transformative use cases by connecting multiple parts of the data lifecycle to collect, enrich, secure, report, serve, and predict in support of business objectives and operations.

The sheer volume of data we all have access to today makes it challenging to manage an organization’s journey from the edge all the way to the cloud complex. Since data and analytics are an integral part of every initiative, decision or digital enablement, Globe has established the Enterprise Data Office (EDO) to provide what it takes to harvest value from big data – from its governance, engineering, and democratization to generate actionable insights. Every Globe business unit is on a journey to elevate outcomes powered by data.
EDO creates assets and platforms for enterprise use, including a machine learning platform built on the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) in the public cloud. Cloudera enables Globe to ingest massive volumes of data through its streaming platform. As a result, caring for customers has transformed especially in this pandemic, enabled by real-time detection and moment-based actions, predicting intent, and a more intimate understanding of customer needs.
A key example of this in action is Globe’s Airtime Loan offering for customers in need of connectivity to cope with the times. Prepaid subscribers are able to borrow credits for use of data, messaging and making calls. Using predictive models developed by EDO and supported by Cloudera, Globe enables the Airtime Loans product to use near real-time insights from the data to engage customers with suitable loan offers. Powered by Apache Kafka, the platform facilitates a streaming process for loan collection that averages in less than a second which has significantly increased the collection rate and thus, improved cash flow and funding of new loans.
Since implementing Cloudera’s suite of products, the company has grown its creditworthy customer base by more than 50% and has seen its Airtime Loans business revenue triple. Cloudera’s capabilities manage the data so that Globe can be dedicated to the core of its purpose, that is to raise customer experience standards and help them live mobile lifestyles.
The awards were participated in by leaders of industry and creators of some of the world’s most innovative solutions, with each of the finalists representing organizations running cutting-edge use cases that showcase a winning enterprise data cloud strategy.
The winners for the different categories were selected by a group of 37 industry analysts, influencers, and members of the media.
