Women in business can turn to Lark for all the essential tools they need to thrive in a predominantly digital landscape, while still managing work-life balance.
Remote work has opened up greater opportunities for women at work. The ability to work from anywhere has allowed these women to play an increasingly active role in the workplace, enabling them to take on more empowered leadership roles. In a digital work landscape, women are also given a platform where they are free to share their opinions and points of view, and their voices are clearly heard and acknowledged.
Female leaders give businesses an edge
More and more, the advantages of having female leaders in the workplace are becoming evident. According to Mckinsey, senior-level women have a meaningful impact on a company’s culture. They are said to be more likely to embrace employee-friendly programs and policies, with over 50% of senior-level women found to take a firm stand for racial and gender equality in the workplace.
Female leaders often show strong support for the development of their employees, and build a culture of compassion and empathy in the workplace. When placed in higher positions within a business, women have also been able to establish order within the organization, and boost the company’s performance through their strong commitment to deliverables and keen attention to detail.
A tool that boosts both remote work and work-life balance
To help women continue to rise in this new digital workplace, an effective tool for remote collaboration is necessary. This tool should not only equip women with everything they need to do work online, but also help them establish work-life balance, an essential component in their overall success.
In a time where people can work from anywhere as long as they have internet connectivity, a communication tool that works well on multiple devices, optimized for both mobile and desktop, is key. One such tool is Lark, an all-in-one solution that helps businesses quickly adapt to this new way of working. Lark is equipped with powerful functionalities in chat, video conferencing, calendar, document editing and sharing, and cloud storage.
Lark is capable of work processes such as approvals, reimbursements and leaves, and even has health check-in bots that help monitor a team’s wellbeing. There is no need for any coding or additional purchase of software for work to begin on Lark, making it accessible to businesses of all sizes.
The women leaders of Lark
Behind Lark is a team of digitally-able leaders, who understand the need for efficient communication and project management solutions for remote teams and women-led businesses. Within this Lark team are two female leaders who actively contribute to the company’s growth and success.
Joey Lim, Vice President of Sales – APAC in Lark, leads a team of sales professionals, helping customers in the Asia Pacific region enhance their internal work and transformation processes, bringing joy and efficiency in work collaboration to organisations big and small. Joey has been part of the cloud computing wave since 2007, contributing a wealth of sales and marketing experience to the team.
Another female leader at Lark is Cat Avelino, Head of Communications of Lark Philippines. She has worked for some of the world’s most recognized global brands across various industries, from banking to fast-moving consumer goods, managing external communications and even corporate social responsibility efforts.
As part of a rapidly growing and evolving team, Joey and Cat are no strangers on challenges in the workplace, and have done their fair share of overcoming these struggles and achieving goals. For Cat, an optimal work environment along with the right mix of team members plays a huge part in a company’s success. “I believe having diversity in talent is important for any organization to succeed and thrive. An organization is so much more effective when it brings together individuals of different strengths, experiences, and backgrounds, and works towards building a collaborative work environment so everyone is working towards a common goal,” says Cat.
For Joey, attaining success as a working woman requires not just balancing, but blending all aspects of life. She says, “Look for ways to blend, not balance the parts of your work, family and self. As a working mom with three children, I have three key factors that I use to manage the different roles I play. First, a solid family structure both at work and at home. Second, discipline and time dedication. This means that when I am at work, I am fully present to be as productive as I can and vice versa at home with my children and family. Third, being able to work remotely, I have the ability and am equipped to access my team. This allows me to increase my productivity at work while staying on top of what needs to be done. I am able to work very well with my remote team especially with a communication tool like Lark that has all the features I need at my fingertips.”
Thriving as a female leader at work
As a female leader in the workplace, Joey says, “You need to trust your people. Being a successful leader means you need to communicate clearly to your team all that you expect out of them, and the key outcomes of their role. In order for flexible working to be effective, leaders need to adjust and change their mindsets on how they understand Key Performance Indicators and productivity. Don’t try to account for the physical number of hours. Instead, allow for the quality of work to speak for itself. Inspire confidence in your team by giving them the benefit of doubt to allow them to achieve, and by providing them with the right tools, software, training, objectives and support.”
For women who want to be more and do more at work, this is Joey Lim’s advice. “Be self aware of your achievements, small or big. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring many bright women but one of the main factors holding most of them back is confidence in their abilities. Don’t allow your self-critic to overpower you. You are your biggest coach. Lead with action. Lead by being open, supportive and collaborative. Your personal energy is what will drive the rest of the team to stay inspired or motivated to come along with you for the challenge. Think about the words you use and how you say them, your body language or even your facial expressions. Lastly, don’t be afraid to speak up and share your point-of-view. Put yourself outside your comfort zone and embrace change, be it a new role in your current job, taking on a new scope, or even a new assignment. Look at it as an opportunity to learn something new and useful for your next adventure.”
As a final note, Joey shares a message with everyone.
