Globe Telecom plans to upgrade half of its mobile network, or 10,000 sites, as part of a sweeping push to improve service quality.
The company said in a statement that much of the recent upgrades have focused on activating more 4G/LTE sites, which offer faster internet speeds for mobile subscribers.
Recently, this has resulted in improved services in 115 barangays in Metro Manila, northern Luzon, southern Luzon, in Visayas and in Mindanao, Globe said.
“These site upgrades will definitely boost our efforts to increase our capacity and network coverage in areas where customers were used to having only call and SMS services,” Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for program delivery, network technical group, said in a statement.
Globe said the ongoing upgrades have boosted internet quality in barangays in Metro Manila, Marinduque, Bohol, Sorsogon, Iloilo, Bulacan, Rizal, Antique, Pampanga, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Samar, Tarlac, Cebu, Zamboanga, Pangasinan, Cebu, Albay, Batangas, Leyte, Isabela, Davao del Sur, Palawan and Albay.
The company added that 43 sites alone were upgraded in Bulacan province in Bocaue, Malolos, Marilao, Sta. Maria, San Miguel, Calumpit, Norzagaray, San Ildefonso, San Jose Del Monte, Guiguinto, Baliuag, Bustos and San Rafael.
Globe is pursuing the program alongside the installation of more fiber cables for fixed broadband in homes and businesses.
“We are hopeful that this modernization in various locations across the country will help our customers with their requirements whether it is for online or distance learning, work from home setup, or starting their own small online businesses,” Kristelle Dizon, Globe head of consumer mobile business, said in the same statement.
