MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the inauguration of a road widening project in Taguig City, part of ongoing efforts to ease road congestion in Metro Manila.
The project was Phase 1 of the Nichols Field Road, commonly known as Lawton Avenue.
“We are glad to inform the motoring public that their traffic woes will soon be over,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said in a statement. He said the completion of the 1.34-kilometer road-widening project would “provide better traffic flow, faster movement of goods and services as well as a safer journey.”
The DPWH said the project, which started in 2017, supports efforts to increase road capacity.
Lawton Avenue compliments the Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road, which includes the Lawton Avenue-Sta. Monica Bridge. This is marked for full completion in 2021.
The DPWH also announced the opening of a 90-bed COVID-19 isolation facility in Las Piñas.
Built on lot near Goodyear Building at the village of Almanza, the offsite isolation facility is made from 26 container vans that were converted into fully-airconditioned hospital rooms with 90-bed capacity.
“This facility follows the DPWH standard design,” said Villar. It complied with Department of Health guidelines on proper ventilation and separate toilets and baths in each room, he said.
