Feeding the frontliners

It has been more than 200 days since the first lockdown was announced, and while a lot of businesses and services are opening up again, we cannot forget the brave men and women who have kept the country running during our darkest hours: the frontliners. Frontliners in the Philippines range from essential retail and manufacturing workers to healthcare workers, and it is impossible to thank them enough for the hard work they continue to do each day.

Some companies have tried to show these brave men and women just how important and integral they are to life as we know it. One company in particular is Century Pacific Food Inc, who launched Century Cares; a program that is dedicated to provide aid to frontliners.

In cooperation with Frontline Feeders Philippines, an NGO that represents the interests of frontliners, Century Cares mounted feeding programs for many different beneficiaries such as the Philippine Heart Center, Philippine General Hospital, and Armed Forces of the Philippines to name a few. A total of 300,000 people were fed by Century Cares, and this number continues to rise.

Nikki Dizon, General Manager for Century’s Frozen Meats Division enthused,“Century, its sister companies Shakeys andPeri-Peri together with Frontline Feeders have come together with our own unique resources, capacity and skills, to extend help in the best way we know how. It’s the least we can do to take care of the people who put their lives at risk daily for us”.

“For the Century Pacific Group in particular, composed primarily of food businesses, nourishing our frontliners through freshly prepared food is another meaningful way to live out our mission and vision as a company.”

CPFI has a history of being a socially responsible company, and launched the “Kain Po” program in 2010. To date, it has provided a staggering 28 million meals — in cooperation with partners like Rise Against Hunger, Project Pearls, and Operation Blessing. In what can only be described as the spirit of bayanihan personified, CPFI has continuously been making the effort to care for the people who have made sure that life did not completely grind to a halt. Feeding programs and other aid initiatives are expected to continue well after lockdown, as well.
