Maynilad to defer rate increase in 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Maynilad Water Services Inc. announced on Tuesday that it will defer rate increase scheduled in January 2021, citing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to the livelihood of its customers.

“Bilang tugon sa impact ng COVID-19 pandemic na lubhang nakaapekto sa hanap-buhay ng marami nating kababayan, minabuti ng Maynilad na huwag na munang ipatupad ang mga rate increase na nakatakda sa Enero 2021, partikular ang rebasing adjustment na nauna nang naaprubahan noong 2018 at ang mandated na CPI [customer price index] inflation increase para sa 2021,” Maynilad said in a statement.

(In response to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic to the livelihood of many of our countrymen, Maynilad decided to defer the rate increase scheduled in January, particularly the rebasing adjustment earlier approved in 2018 and the mandated CPI inflation increase for 2021.)

Maynilad said this is in consonance with the efforts of the government to deal with the impact of the pandemic on the livelihood of Filipinos.

Maynilad currently serves customers in the cities of Manila, Quezon, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon. It also serves certain areas in Cavite such as the cities of Bacoor, Cavite, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario.
