Supermarket operator Puregold Price Club Inc. and Globe Telecom have expanded a partnership that allows customers to shop online.
They launched this week a new feature within the Puregold mobile app, which is powered by Globe, to allow users to remotely purchase prepaid credits. This is on top of other Globe products such as SIM cards, calling cards and prepaid home Wi-Fi credits.
This caters to the increasing shift to e-commerce with quarantine measures still in place amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With the current situation, we want to help our customers to stay safe in their homes. By adding an in-app loading service with multiple payment options in the Puregold app, they can buy load credits anytime 24/7 anywhere they are,” Puregold president Vincent Co said in a statement.
“With the increase in work from home and learn from home setup, having ready access to prepaid load and promos is as important as having basic necessities in the house,” Globe CEO Ernest Cu said.
Puregold and Globe launched their partnership at the start of 2020 to allow customers to shop for groceries at home. The app uses features such as barcode scanning and store pickup or delivery options.
The app adds to Puregold’s store footprint across the country, which spans 444 Puregold, S&R shopping warehouses and fast food outlets.
Puregold was among the companies that posted profit growth in the first semester of 2020 as its stores remained operational while strict quarantine measures were imposed.
