PT&T, US partner amp up data protection arsenal vs disasters

Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Co. (PT&T) is partnering with United States-based Maxava to widen its disaster recovery products offered to customers.

“With the importance of data, the resiliency of an organization’s data management and information policies are more critical than ever,” PT&T said in a statement.

Maxava is a global provi­der of monitoring, high availability and disaster recovery solutions for IBM Power Systems. It serves more than 500 customers in over 40 countries in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

The partnership is part of PT&T’s shift into an information technology (IT) services provider offering cloud, security, disaster recovery and other solutions, which began in the past year under a new management.

“Being prepared is half the battle won. Our partnership with Maxava solidifies our thrust to offer our clients with industry-leading business resiliency solutions especially now that companies have seen the importance of resilience and business continuity in the current COVID-19 crisis,” PT&T IT services unit head Ella Ortega said.

“A pandemic is just one type of a crisis that companies will have to face. We have to be prepared to thrive and not merely survive whatever the conditions,” she added.

PT&T has been strengthening partnerships as it cited optimistic prospects despite the health crisis.

PT&T said in an earlier filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange that revenues during the first quarter of the year rose 40 percent to P107.13 million. This helped narrow losses to P15.6 million versus P20.4 million during the same period in 2019. INQ
