SM Supermalls officially welcomed back its shoppers with its #SafeMallingAtSM campaign, rolling out enhanced safety and sanitation measures in community spaces to reassure everyone’s health and well-being while inside the mall.
“As we continue to serve the community and provide them with their essential needs, we will be implementing safety measures to help protect customers, employees, and tenant partners,” said SM Supermalls president Steven Tan. “The cooperation of our valued mallgoers is important to make this work for everyone’s protection.”
Everyone at the mall is required to wear face masks at all times. Temperature checks and alcohol sanitizers are in place at all entrances. For everyone’s safety, persons with temperatures higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius will not be allowed inside. In addition, tenant employees are strictly instructed to follow the Department of Health fit-to-work guidelines.
In observance of social distancing, SM emphasizes “safe distancing” to promote physical distance with social connectivity. Mallgoers are asked to keep a one-meter distance from each other at all times, especially when queuing. On the escalators, shoppers must be at least two steps apart from each other. Use of elevators are limited to 50 percent capacity and are exclusive for persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens, and pregnant women,
The number of people will be limited inside stores, supermarkets, and restaurants offering takeout and delivery. In line with the government’s rules to discourage loitering in the mall, free Wi-Fi access will be disabled and “leisure” establishments will remain closed. Shoppers are requested to limit malling activities to buying essentials only, such as food and medicine, and accessing nonleisure services.
SM assures mallgoers that all malls nationwide are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to opening and throughout mall hours, especially in areas with heavy customer contact. The restrooms are sanitized every 30 minutes, and will have alcohol dispensers.
Taking safety measures up a notch, SM will run COVID-19 antibody rapid testing for all its mall-based employees and mall front-liners, including janitors and security guards. Its tenant partners can avail of this test, at cost, for their staff. Protective equipment are also provided, including face masks and face shields. Agency personnel working in high customer contact areas are required to wear gloves. Mall employees undergo temperature checks at the start of shift and throughout the day.
In these challenging times, SM recognizes that everyone’s safety matters, and with the Safe Malling campaign, the malls remains committed to create a safe environment for all.
