PAL completes ‘gold standard’ in flight safety audit

The Philippine Airlines group announced the completion of a crucial safety audit by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Known as the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the exercise is considered the “gold standard” in flight safety.

“The IOSA registration affirms that safety is Philippine Airlines’ topmost priority and at the heart of our operational culture,“ PAL President Gilbert F. Santa Maria said in a statement.

“In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, that safety culture is what drives us to spare no effort in ensuring the safety of all the travellers who put their trust in our airplanes and our people when they travel,” he added.

PAL said the audit on its operational management and control systems is conducted every two years. The IOSA audits for PAL and PAL express started in November 2019 and ended in the first quarter of 2020.

“PAL has completed its seventh consecutive IOSA renewal, marking 14 years of full international safety compliance by the country’s flag carrier,” the airline said in the statement.

PAL was the first Filipino airline to be IOSA-registered for safety. PAL express was the second Filipino airline to be included in the IOSA Registry in March 2014. It earned its first renewal in March 2016. It has now completed its fourth consecutive certification with the recent successful audit, the airline said.
