Globe Telecom was given the go signal to install cell sites along the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila.
Globe said the sites would be located on the stretch from LRT 2’s Santolan station in Quezon City to Recto station in Manila.
“Globe can build and expand its capacity while the trains are not allowed to transport passengers,” Light Rail Transit Authority administrator Reynaldo Berroya said in a statement.
The LRT 2 line has 11 stations serving around 180,000 to 240,000 commuters per day prior to the implementation of the ECQ. It spans 17 kilometers from Santolan to Recto.
It is being expanded by two more stations, Masinag and Emerald.
“The pandemic has impacted our lives in so many ways. While it has resulted in many challenges, we would like to dwell more on the opportunities for us to improve our services,” Ernest Cu, Globe president and CEO, said in the same statement.
Aside from the LRT 2 line, Globe is pushing local
government units and other public and private institutions to make full use of the community quarantine to improve connectivity and internet services especially in Metro Manila.
Globe earlier said network upgrades in the second quarter took a hit due to restrictions under ECQ. INQ
