Restrictions on public, private construction projects listed
MANILA, Philippines — While more public works and private construction projects are now allowed under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) imposed over Metro Manila, Laguna and Cebu City from May 16 to May 31, these projects are subject to minimum standards, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said on Wednesday.
The government on Tuesday announced the easing of quarantine restrictions in several cities and provinces, which have been under lockdown until May 15, as part of efforts to contain the deadly new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Under the more relaxed MECQ, essential public and private construction projects (sewerage, water services facilities, health facilities) are now allowed, but with certain restrictions.
According to Roque, workers in construction projects must be between 21 and 59 years of age, and must not have preexisting health conditions.
They must also be tested for COVID-19, with the cost to be funded by their contractors.Workers must be housed in barracks with segregated facilities for the duration of the project, and must be transported by private shuttle to the site.
Onsite employees must have quarantine passes as well.
Article continues after this advertisementWorkers must also observe the required one-meter social distancing and should have personal protective equipment. The site must be disinfected daily.
Article continues after this advertisementErrands outside the work area should be limited and those returning from outside must undergo quarantine.
Deliveries and disposal must also be handled by a separate team.
There should also be a safety officer to ensure compliance with the rules.
