The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) appealed to the public to bear with limited banking services at this time that these financial institutions were operating only with a skeleton workforce.

BAP, for and on behalf of its member banks, expressed support to the government’s efforts to immediately arrest and contain the COVID-19 pandemic and assured the public that its member-banks would continue to provide critical services amid difficulties and challenges.

“Despite operating on skeletal workforce, we kept some branches open, ATM (automated teller) machines working and the financial markets going.   We are committed to delivering these services to ensure the continuity of the flow of goods and services which are even more vital at this time,” the BAP said.

“Given the limited personnel that the banks can deploy during the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, we appeal to the public for your patience and understanding in availing your financial requirements during these extraordinary circumstances.”

With the passage of Republic Act No. 11469 or “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”, the BAP added that it’s in close coordination with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to help with the smooth implementation.

“The banking industry is here to support the national government and do what is necessary to help win the fight against COVID-19,” the BAP said.
