BIR extends more tax deadlines as taxpayers kept at home by COVID-19

In a sign that people are in for the long haul in the Luzon-wide quarantine against COVID-19, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) extended more deadlines to file and pay other taxes that would fall during the month-long lockdown.

In an order issued on March 19 to amend an earlier order, BIR chief Caesar R. Dulay extended until May 15 the April 15 deadline to file 2019 income tax returns.

The BIR also extended until April 30 from March 31 the deadline to apply for VAT refunds for the first quarter of 2018.

The amended order included income tax returns (ITR) for corporations, partnerships and other nonindividual taxpayers in the extended deadline to file ITR until April 30 from March 31.

The last day to file annual information return of income taxes withheld on compensation and final withholding taxes and submit certificate of compensation payment was also moved to April 30 from March 31 previously.

The filing and payment of monthly VAT tax declaration and opercentage tax on winnings and prizes withheld by race track operators for the month of February were both extended until April 20 instead of March 20.

In the case of filing and payment of March withholding tax remittance return for national government agencies and also this month’s excise tax return for mineral products, their original April 10 deadline was moved to May 11.

Other filing and payment deadlines falling on March 21-25 and 30-31 as well as April 5 and 10-14 were also granted one-month extensions.
