Despite being the bestselling minivan of the United States, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Dodge Grand Caravan will be no more as of May 22.
Late last week Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s announced that the Dodge Grand Caravan, the company’s bestselling minivan which became over its 35 years of service one of the preferred vehicle choices of “soccer parents,” will be discontinued by the end of May.
Replacing the model will be the Chrysler Voyager, a lower-tier version of the brand’s Pacifica minivan. According to The Detroit News, this shift is being made to distinguish Dodge as a performance vehicle brand headlined by the Charger and Challenger muscle cars and Chrysler as a “‘people-mover’ brand.”
Unfortunately, a byproduct of this discontinuation is a massive loss in employment, as shutting down a shift at the plant where the Grand Caravan is currently manufactured will leave 1,5000 people without jobs.
