With the recent eruption of Taal Volcano, McDonald’s Philippines through its charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) mobilized employees and engaged customers to provide help to the affected families in the different evacuation centers.

“Our commitment to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos, especially children, has always been at our core. Nakakataba ng puso to see how the whole McDonald’s community took time to help and serve the families, making them feel that they are not alone during calamities like this,” RMHC Executive Director Marie Angeles shared.

McDonald’s Philippines opened the doors of its 100 stores nationwide to support the Ronald McDonald Bigay Tulong program of RMHC by accepting in-kind donations. Customers were encouraged to donate biscuits, bottled water, canned goods, hygiene kits, blankets and other needed items for the affected families.

With malasakit ingrained in the company’s values, McDonald’s, with the help of its employees and franchisees, worked together to pack and distribute goods for 2,000 families. McDonald’s also served food to close to 20,000 individuals in different evacuation centers for a week.

“We are very much grateful to our partners, the Local Government Units (LGU), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Philippine Red Cross for helping us distribute relief goods and provide meals for our dedicated volunteers,” RMHC Executive Director Marie Angeles shared.

More than serving food and distributing goods, McDonald’s Fun Days were held last January 25 and 26, wherein children in the evacuation centers were given time to have fun through games and other activities.

RMHC Celebrity ambassador Alden Richards joined the January 26 Fun Day to surprise and add more cheer to the children from several evacuation centers in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Hindi po ako nagdalawang isip tumulong lalong-lalo na sa mga bata na affected by the calamity. Salamat sa McDonald’s at RMHC, nabigyan ako ng chance na makatulong at makapagpasaya kahit sandali lang.” Richards said.
