Meralco cuts rate by 59 centavos per kilowatt-hour

MANILA, Philippines — Residential customers of the Manila Electric Co. will enjoy this February the lowest rates in 10 years as Meralco cuts its charge by 59 centavos per kilowatt-hour.

At P8.8623 per kWh, the distribution giant’s latest overall rate is the lowest for any month since P8.72 per kWh in January 2018 and the lowest rate for the month of February since 2010 at P9.03 per kWh.

With this month’s rate cut,  a household that consumes 200 kWh will see their bill reduced by P118 for the month.

This is mainly to a lower generation charge, which Meralco said was a result of the implementation of new power supply contracts that started last Dec. 26.
