MANILA, Philippines — Clean Air Philippines Movement, Inc. (CAPMI), an environmental organization, has asked the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to investigate the registration of a company that made what it called a “malicious duplication” of its name.
In a statement released Wednesday, CAPMI, a registered SEC-corporation, said that its president, Leo O. Olarte, wrote an “urgent” letter to SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino to investigate and, if necessary, file legal action against the Clean Air Movement of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI).
CAPMI fears that the similarity of names brings “possible malice for the alleged intentional duplication of its duly registered corporate name.”
According to CAPMI, CAMPI also has a similar acronym to another SEC-registered company, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc.
“[E]ven in their own statements and pronouncements the Clean Air Movement of the Philippines, Inc. or CAMPI totally differs and even contradicts the position taken by our legitimate organization the Clean Air Philippines Movement, Incorporated or CAPMI on major issues involving transportation and our environment,” Olarte said.
“We are asking SEC chairman Emilio Benito Aquino to speedily investigate and if warranted to file the necessary legal action for the possible malicious usage and duplication of our duly registered corporate name by another organization,” the CAPMI president said.
