While St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) is now on its 117th year, SLMC Global City will celebrate its 10th anniversary this month. The celebration will pay tribute to its PEOPLE – the employees who have extended compassionate service and the highly-trained doctors who have provided only the best healthcare solutions to its valued patients who continuously inspire SLMC to deliver quality healthcare service. This highlights the culture of care which the organization upholds through all these years.
SLMC regards People Management as an important element to fulfill its commitment in delivering the best possible healthcare experience to their patients and their families.
SLMC recently reached an impressive over-all engagement level which outperformed the global engagement score as set by global human resource company, Aon Hewitt. The results were garnered from an extensive Employee Engagement Survey conducted by Talent, Leadership, Change Consulting firm (www.thetlcsolutions.com).
The topmost rated engagement elements include Purpose, Relationship, Leadership, and Attitude Towards Change. The key strengths of SLMC that were also recognized include enabling systems that support efficiency, patient centricity, and the perception of opportunities for career advancement.
Atty. Simeon C. Obtinalla, Jr., Human Resources Group Vice President said, “SLMC has continuously focused on creating programs that strengthened the engagement level of the organization as well as capitalized on insights and comments from the 2019 survey in order to draw action plans to address associates’ concerns.”
In this light, SLMC implemented new HR strategies, which resulted in a more visible leadership team, more competitive compensation structure, a newly crafted change management and communication strategy, and the introduction of a number of people initiatives including an HR business partnership system that paved the way for the high levels of employee engagement.
SLMC also implemented in 2019 various milestone HR programs such as the adaption of a New Salary Structure, additional Nurses’ Leveling Allowance, Nurse Training Program – UK Track, Nursing Scholarship – Master’s Degree Program, Adoption of Blended Learning Approach as a means for Associates Training, Competency Advancement Training (CAT) for Allied Health Professionals, and Associate of the Year Recognition for SLMC Top Performers, among others.
Dr. Arturo S. Dela Peña, St. Luke’s Medical Center President and CEO, said “Central to this is the recognition that the role of every associate is critical to determine the organization’s success. By engaging people and giving them a deeper understanding of how important their contributions are, St. Luke’s was able to translate this into increased productivity amongst our workforce and at the same time driving profitability upwards, culminating ultimately in high employee engagement as well as good financial performance indicators.”
Moving forward, St. Luke’s Medical Center continues to upgrade its employee status after previously receiving a Gold Standard from Investors in People (IiP), which is a standard for people management; and a Best Employer Brand award by World HRD Congress-Employer Branding Institute in 2019.
This has made SLMC as among the leading and most respected healthcare institutions in the Philippines. Its two facilities in Quezon City and Global City, Taguig are at par with the most advanced hospitals around the world.
