Digital TV takeup going strong

/ 04:08 AM December 09, 2019

Media giant ABS-CBN Corp. said the strong take-up of digital television continued through November. ‍‍In a statement, ABS-CBN said it had sold 8.9 million ABS-CBN TVplus units since it was introduced in 2015.

This also helped bolster the penetration of digital TV. Third party research firm Kantar Media said that as of November this year, households in Metro Manila with TVPlus but no cable service hit 81 percent from 72 percent in August 2018.

The number of non-cabled homes in Mega Manila with TVplus grew to 75 percent from 65 percent. In suburban areas, that number rose to 69 percent from 57 percent.

“With the rapid rise of TVplus in homes nationwide, digital TV is fast becoming the standard in television viewing in the Philippines,” Charles Lim, ABS-CBN head of Access, said in the statement.

The rollout of TVPlus is in step with the government’s plan to shut down analog TV by 2023. INQ
