The consortium of Manila Electric Co. and its Japanese partners has completed building the interim power distribution system in New Clark City, with the facilities already energized in time for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.
In its latest quarterly performance report, Meralco said two out of four major construction works in “Phase 1A” of the NCC Electrical Distribution Project were completed in August. These are the 60-kilovolt sub-transmission line and the 13.8-kv underground line.
The other two major works —the interim substation and 13.8-kv overhead lines—were completed in June.
All four components of Phase 1A were energized in August.
The last to be completed, the underground line, are intended to deliver electricity to NCC’s major clusters of buildings. These are buildings that would host state offices in the New Government Administrative Center; sport facilities that would be used in the SEA Games including the Stadium, Aquatic Center and Athlete’s Village; as well as a hospital and a commercial center.
According to Meralco, the power distribution system has been fully operational since Aug. 23 and that the Stadium, Aquatic Center and government buildings were connected to the power network on Oct. 13.
Meralco has a 60-percent stake in the consortium that includes Marubeni Corp., The Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. and Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc.
The consortium holds a 90-percent stake in a joint venture with the BCDA for the development of the NCC electricity distribution system.
The joint venture agreement between BCDA and the consortium covering 94.5 square kilometers of land area within the Clark Special Economic Zone was signed on April 3.
