MANILA, Philippines—The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has exceeded its collection target by P1.36 billion for 2019.
The NTC, an agency under the Department of Information and Communications Technology, said its target collection for 2019 was at P4.786 billion and the agency collected a total of P6.147 billion as of October 14.
“While there is much to be thankful for in exceeding our collection target this year, the agency will continue to work to exceed its collection target by as much as P2 billion by yearend,” NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba said in a press release.
This is the fourth straight year the NTC exceeded its collection goal. In 2018, it exceeded target by P1.8 billion.
The agency attributed this year’s performance to efforts “to strictly enforce stakeholders’ compliance in remitting spectrum users’ fees, supervision and regulation fees and penalties.” The stakeholders regulated by the NTC include cable and commercial television operators, radio stations, telecommunications firms and commercial and portable radio operators.
Collection goals of the agency are reflected in the Budget of Expenditure and Sources of Financing, a document mandated by the Constitution and consolidated by the Department of Budget Management.
