Globe Telecom rolled out its latest high-speed home wireless internet service across more areas in Luzon.
Globe said its fifth-generation (5G) fixed wireless broadband service was made available in select areas in Rizal, Cavite and Bulacan.
It initially rolled out 5G for customers in Pasig City in Metro Manila.
In its statement, the company said its Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G was now available to households in Greenpark in Cainta, Rizal; Woodland Hills in Carmona, Cavite; Carissa Homes 2A and 2B and Palmera Homes in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
“Our aim for 5G deployment is to serve more customers, especially in areas where we encounter challenges in rolling out fiber-optic cable, through providing technology that enables them for the future,” Martha Sazon, Globe senior vice president and head of broadband business, said in the statement.
The technology will help expand the company’s presence where it lacks fiber internet services.
Globe earlier said 5G would allow greater internet speeds with less lag times.
These make it ideal for popular uses such as internet TV and gaming.
Globe said plans currently offered are at P1,899 per month for up to 20 megabits per second, P2,499 for up to 50Mbps, and P2,899 for up to 100Mbps, all with data allocation of 2-terabytes (TB).
The telco noted that it plans to roll out 5G to more areas in Metropolitan and Greater Manila. Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G currently covers communities with 120-250 homes, it added.
The 5G rollout is also in step with an earlier target to reach two million homes by 2020 with high-speed, reliable and secure connectivity. —MIGUEL R. CAMUS
