MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Wednesday served a closure order against Great Empire Gaming and Amusement Corp., an unregistered Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) service operator in Libis, Quezon City.

BIR Deputy Commissioner Arnel Guballa and Department of Finance Assistant Secretary Tony Lambino led the operation, together with members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Based on preliminary information provided by Guballa, Great Empire was the second biggest Pogo service operator in the country.

Lambino said the company has about 2,000 workers, mostly Chinese.

Guballa said parallel closure operations against unregistered POGOs were ongoing in Parañaque and Subic. /kga
