11 reasons why you should be at MOA on 11-11-11
Felt a bit heavy lately, your soul sinking six feet under from being in the “land of the dead” the whole weekend past? Pump life back into your veins, and join your fellow petrol heads in automotive nirvana at the Mall of Asia from Nov. 11 to 13. That’s where Chevrolet officially celebrates its centennial.
Boy, does time fly. The cliché “feels just like yesterday” certainly applies here, for it was just in 1911 that Swiss-born racing driver Louis Chevrolet (a clockmaker’s son) and business partner William Durant co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. According to “The Car Book: The Definitive Visual History,” Louis had his heart constantly set at the race tracks rather than in his offices at Detroit. Good thing the Detroit offices followed the heart of the racing champ, as eventually Chevrolet would churn out such legendary powerful cars as the Camaro, Bel-Air, Corvette and Blazer.
Get to know more about the men behind the beginnings of Chevrolet, and then get a glimpse of its future at the Music Hall of the SM Mall of Asia on November 11, when The Covenant Car Company Inc. (Chevrolet Philippines) gets the 11-11-11 Chevy Motorama going.
Here are 11 reasons not to miss the celebrations:
1.) It’s the Gold Bow Tie’s 100th birthday. And we know, over time, gold can only increase its value. It will be the grandest celebration ever of all things Chevrolet, a party to celebrate 100 years of “automotive excellence,” as how Chevrolet folks describe it. How to celebrate a centennial? Loudly, of course, with music and the beat of the drums.
2.) Treat your folks and friends to a virtual eye candy of classic car history. How many classic Chevys can you see in a century? As many as the MOA Music Hall 4 can pack them in, of course. A total of 13 classic Chevy cars will be on display, including the Bel Air, a C10 Step Side pickup, and the Camaro.

Get up close and personal with iconic Chevrolet cars as well as the top American muscle cars, and maybe ask someone (politely, of course) to take a photo of you beside the cars. And keep an eye out for Bumblebee.

5.) A 100-car motorcade, and anything less should merit a traffic obstruction ticket. This all-Chevy traffic stopper happens on November 12, and will be composed of classic and modern Chevys.
6.) Test-drive. What are cars for if you can’t drive them, right? Get a chance to get behind the wheel of the latest Chevrolet vehicles, like the popular Cruze and then take them for a spin.
7.) Celebrities will give you your raffle prize. Would Chevy ambassador Ryan Agoncillo do as your raffle prize giver? Or maybe his gang of fellow celebrities would take turns handing out hourly raffle prizes. Heck, you might become the next celebrity even, IF you show enough spunk and spark in front of the TV camera, because the celebrations will be telecast live on Studio 23.
8.) The Orlando makes its debut. The all-new seven-seater Chevrolet Orlando, described as Chevrolet’s first-ever European-style MPV that made its production debut at the Paris Motor Show last year, will be launched at the event.
9.) A glimpse of the Colorado. Be the first to preview the all-new Chevy Colorado pickup, and be among the first to discover its handsomely rugged assertiveness.
10.) A fashion show of Chevy’s milestones. How Chevy pulls off its Chevrolet 100 years of Automotive Milestones Fashion Show is definitely a must-see. Will there be a gold bow tie in every dress or suit? Who knows.
11.) Spark aficionados unite. The Design the TopGear Spark race car online contest (hosted by topgear.com.ph) will be launched here. It seems that Chevrolet’s “small car with a massive attitude,” the fuel conscious “autobot,” will be the big star of this show. The Spark is the only mini-passenger car built on a global platform that was made to withstand different road conditions all over the world. And it’s fitting Chevrolet starts its second century small, because everything big starts with a spark.
