The dusitD2 Hotel in Davao City is easy to spot in the emerging business district of Lanang. The three towers stand out as they exude grace and dynamism amid the constant hum of this highly urbanized city. And that’s just the façade. It was in 2015 when the idea of setting up the first five-star hotel in Davao crossed the mind of Tomas Lorenzo, CEO of Torre Lorenzo Development Corp.
Lorenzo used to fly in and out of Davao City to attend to business matters, then noticing how far behind the hotels in the city were. That’s when he recognized the “market vacuum” for high-end accommodations in the city. Everyone thought it was a crazy idea. But it only further fueled his desire to build something better to give back to the city.
Lorenzo believed even back then that Davao City was more than ready to have a five-star luxury hotel.
“When we envisioned a high-end five-star project for our real estate group, I said that we are going to do it in Davao. And the reaction was a look of disbelief. They thought that Davao was not ready for five-star luxury and I said, the place is full, the hotels are full, people have money. So we are (raising) the standards of living in Davao City,” Lorenzo disclosed.
Raising the bar
Today, TLDC painted a new landscape for Davao City with the opening of the dusitD2 Hotel, raising the bar for rooms, amenities, and services.
TLDC’s luxury residential complex is a mixed-type development. The Dusit Thani Residence Davao and dusitD2 Hotel luxury complex has 174 spacious full-service residence units and 120 hotel rooms, respectively, tailored fit to suit the excitement of cosmopolitan living laced with leisurely escape.
Both the interiors and exteriors of the hotel were designed by Manny Samson and Associates. Even before its grand opening, dusitD2 Hotel already bagged the Best Hotel Interior design during the recent PropertyGuru Philippines Awards. Dusit Thani Residence Davao meanwhile was awarded Best Condo in the Philippines and Best High-end Condo in Davao.
Taste of the good life
The grand opening and inauguration of Dusit Thani Residence and dusitD2 Hotel exemplified what it means to have a taste of the good life. It showcased Mindanao art and talent through its theme and performances. President Duterte was in attendance to show his support for his hometown’s first luxury accommodation.

Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said in her speech that game-changing ideas like setting up a luxury hotel have led to an increase of tourist arrivals in Davao City.
Christopher Wichlan, general manager of Dusit Thani Residences and dusitD2 Hotel, said that Dusit is often packaged as a business hotel but has the character of an urban resort situated in the midst of a vibrant city.
Soon, another hotel will rise just behind the existing hotel. It will be called the Dusit Princess, a four-star hotel projected to have a capacity of 300 rooms. The Tierra Lorenzo will include a low-rise retail space, outdoor gardens and an amphitheater for a music venue that will spruce up the sprawling complex.
