What family members are afraid to ask – answered by today’s successful family businesses

07:00 AM September 05, 2019

There are difficult questions that family businesses face, even at a time when most questions can be answered by a search engine: from parents asking how they can trust their children to run the business properly, or what salaries are commensurate with their abilities, all the way to children wondering how they can get their parents to agree to changes needed to compete in a more digital future.

On September 18, family businesses in the Philippines will finally have a chance to get answers to these important (albeit challenging) questions in the upcoming Philippine Family Business Conference entitled Growing the Family Business: Empowering the Next Generation. Hosted by the Ateneo Family Business Development Center of the John Gokongwei School of Management, Ateneo de Manila University, the conference features next-generation success stories such as that of Megaworld’s Kevin Tan, Chris Po of Century Pacific Food, and Victor Paterno of Philippine Seven Corporation, also known as 7-Eleven.

To be held at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, the conference will feature a range of topics and speakers who will share their real-life experiences in their family business. Bernie Liu of Penshoppe will share how he worked with his parents to turn their garment subcontracting business into a powerful consumer brand. Jose Paolo Delgado’s talk ‘Turning Dad Digital’ will recount the family’s journey into a more digital future. Noted family business expert Peter Johnson will also be flying in from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, to share how the family businesses in Napa Valley and Sonoma have turned California into a successful wine exporter.

For the complete list of speakers and topics, please visit fambiz.ateneo.edu. Due to limited capacity, only those who are registered will be allowed entry. You may register through the website, or reserve seats by calling Ms. Yasmin Ruby at +632-945-7232 or +63-917-885-0064 or email at [email protected]. Families can still take advantage of the 4+1 offer (register 4 seats and get 1 free).

Growing the Family Business: Empowering the Next Generation, A Philippine Family Business Conference will take place on September 18, 2019 from 9AM to 5PM at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City.
