The Country’s Great Leap Into the 5G Future

10:51 AM August 30, 2019

Made possible by the collaboration of two tech giants,  Globe and Huawei, Filipinos will now get to experience “a whole new world of possibilities” that only 5G connectivity can offer.

With the launch of Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G last June 20, Globe becomes the first service provider to launch a 5G-powered service in the Philippines. Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G is the first in Southeast Asia, and second in Asia (next to South Korea) to make 5G technology commercially available.

Fifth-generation or 5G is the latest in Broadband Technology that offers fiber-fast speeds, enhanced reliability, and enormous data capacity. The technology has the potential to revolutionize the way people communicate with each other, access information, get entertained, and do their jobs. It can also radically change the way devices connect to one another to create an intelligent environment.

Powered by Huawei’s Balong 5000 chip, the world’s first 5G multimode modem chipset, Globe at Home Air Fiber 5G is a fixed wireless service that makes use of the Huawei 5G CPE home router, the smallest sized 5G CPE Pro.

To showcase the power of this new technology, customers are invited to drop by the Globe Lifespeed Home booth at Bonifacio High Street until September 6. This allows users to experience up to 100Mbps internet speed for more HD content streaming and low-lag gaming, and to use intelligent security home devices.

“We made a crucial step in fulfilling our goal of connecting more Filipino homes, and our vision of bringing first-world internet to the Philippines,” Globe CEO and President Ernest Cu said in a statement.

The Steadfast Dedication Behind Huawei’s 5G Technology

True to its commitment of introducing more breakthrough innovations, Huawei began its development research efforts for 5G as early as 2009, when 4G was just starting to see an opportunity for commercial deployment. Knowing that innovation is not only about technology, Huawei recognized early on that the success of 5G relies on its user-friendliness, ease of deployment and affordability.

Zhaozhigang, Wireless Solutions Manager at Huawei discusses the potentials of 5G technology to homes and industries.

As a result of ten years of grand vision and dedication, Huawei has signed over fifty (50) commercial contracts with network operators across the globe. Empowering partners, the shipment of Huawei 5G base has reached more than a hundred and fifty thousand (150,000+).

Today, the tech company continues to accelerate industry digitalization to connect and empower manufacturing, energy, media, transportation, public services, healthcare, and education.
