Total adopts e-payments via PayMaya

Gasoline retailer Total Philippines is embracing electronic payments through a partnership with PayMaya.

The tie-up made its debut in Total Alabang, where users can now tap cashless payments through the One by PayMaya all-in-one payments device and through its e-wallet app via PayMaya QR.

The intention is to rollout across Total’s about 500 branches nationwide soon.

“Our strategic partnership with PayMaya in enabling customers with cashless payments is one of our significant initiatives as we continue to innovate our fuel products and energy solutions, on top of the overall customer experience improvements in our stations,” said Mike Esquivel, Total Philippines assistant vice president for retail.

Total will deploy the same payment terminals to its Bonjour convenience store and Cafe Bonjour at the Alabang station, the company said in a statement. The One By PayMaya Business terminal is also Atex-certified, passing the EU standards for health and safety under working environments such as gas stations.

PayMaya was developed by financial technology company Voyager Innovations, a company backed by PLDT Inc., global investment fund KKR, China’s Tencent Holdings and the World Bank’s IFC, and the IFC Emerging Asia Fund. —MIGUEL R. CAMUS
