MPIC unit sets P7.7B worth of projects

Toll road operator NLEX Corp. said it was building P7.7 billion worth of projects to cut congestion in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The company, a unit of infrastructure giant Metro Pacific Investments Corp., said these included new interchanges, bridges and expressway lanes.

Among these is the 2.6-kilometer North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Harbor Link Segment 10 C3-R10 Section, which stretches from C3 Road, Caloocan City to Radial Road 10, Navotas City.

Progress here has reached 33 percent with completion seen by December 2019.

The C3-R10 Section will connect to the recently opened 5.65-km NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 that passes through Karuhatan, Valenzuela City, Gov. Pascual Avenue in Malabon City, and the new Caloocan Interchange on 5th Avenue/C3 Road, Caloocan City.

NLEX Corp. is also expanding the Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX) via two additional expressway lanes, two new bridges at Jadjad and Argonaut, and a tunnel to serve the growing number of vehicles traveling to and from the Subic Bay Freeport.

“A number of projects are simultaneously being implemented in our expressway network in order to ease traffic and prioritize the safety and convenience of our motorists,” NLEX president and general manager J. Luigi L. Bautista said in a statement.

Construction activities in the area also include road raising and flood control works along the Maritan Highway-Rizal Highway-Tipo junction.

Bautista said the SFEX Capacity Expansion Project would facilitate trade and commerce in Subic, and enhance the travel experience of motorists.

The firm cited improvement projects in Bulacan.

The 600-meter NLEX Balagtas northbound entry is almost complete and will be opened to motorists within this month, NLEX Corp. said.

This new artery will provide direct access to motorists from Balagtas Interchange going to NLEX northbound. It said a new Tambubong Interchange Toll plazas at the southbound entry and northbound entry lanes would be constructed at Brgy. Tambubong to serve as alternate routes for motorists bound for Pandi, Bulacan and nearby towns, NLEX Corp. noted.
