DAVAO CITY – President Duterte’s hometown is seeking to further deepen its ties with China as it works out a sisterhood agreement with Chongqing for the development of an industrial park out of this upcoming relationship.
Chongqing is one of four municipalities in China that are under the direct administration of the Chinese central government.
Since taking power in 2016, Duterte has pivoted towards China in terms of deepening economic ties.
Councilor Javier Campos, head of the City Council’s committee on international relations, said the sisterhood agreement, soon to be its third with a Chinese locality, would bring about cooperation in the field of trade and commerce, education, arts and culture, agriculture, and health.
Campos said these prospects were discussed during their courtesy meeting with Consul-General Li Lin of China’s Davao consulate after the government-run Davao City Investment Promotion Center endorsed the sisterhood agreement for approval by the city council.
The pact could facilitate the establishment by Chongqing of an industrial park here./lzb
