MANILA, Philippines — The penalty imposed on employers by the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) for failure to remit their employees’ compensation (EC) contribution to the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has been reduced from 3 percent to 2 percent per month, according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
“ECC amended its rules on employees’ compensation in response to the penal provisions on the collection of contributions of [the] SSS and [the] GSIS,” said Bello, who chairs the ECC board.
The ECC deemed it proper to revise the prevailing percentage or the amount of penalty to be imposed on employers who fail to pay their EC contribution to avoid confusion. —Tina G. Santos
