MANILA, Philippines — The Insurance Commission (IC) on Wednesday warned the public against doing business with General Santos City-based Win Mortuary Plan, which was found to be unregistered with the insurance business regulator.
As such, the IC issued against the company a cease-and-desist order that stopped it from engaging in pre-need and insurance transactions without the required licenses under both Republic Act (RA) No. 9829 or the Pre-Need Code of the Philippines and RA 10607 or the Amended Insurance Code, Insurance Commissioner Dennis B. Funa said in a published notice to the public.
Win Mortuary Plan, whose business address was at Valencia APT Provido Village City Heights in General Santos City, South Cotabato, was operating in Mindanao, Funa noted.
Win Mortuary Plan’s president was Edwin O. Lumawas, the IC chief added.
“The public is warned to refrain from transacting any pre-need and/or insurance business with the company operated by Mr. Lumawas, as the said company is not duly authorized by the lC to do pre-need and/or insurance business, or act as an intermediary,” Funa said.
“The public is likewise warned to refrain from transacting and doing business with any other company operated by the same person that do not possess a valid license from [the IC] and/or any other concerned government agencies,” he added.
Funa enjoined affected plan holders to lodge their complaints against Win Mortuary Plan before the IC.
He also reminded the public to “transact only with duly licensed insurance and pre-need companies, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), or intermediaries.”
Funa added that the Insurance Commission’s website had a list of all registered insurers. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
