The Luzon power grid will enjoy further supply relief as Therma Mobile Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., has signed a power supply agreement with Manila Electric Co. and will start delivering electricity on April 26.
All power plants that went on forced outage earlier this month, causing rolling brownouts for three consecutive days in Luzon, are back online.
“This [supply] contract is a timely response of both AboitizPower and Meralco to the call of the government for stable and reliable power going into the midterm elections and beyond,” Celso C. Caballero III, president and COO of AboitizPower’s oil business unit, said in a statement.
Therma Mobile has four floating power barges moored in Navotas, with a combined generating capacity of 242 megawatts.
The facility went into preservation mode on Feb. 5. It was also voluntarily disconnected from the grid and de-registered from the energy market.
The Navotas facility is expected to be registered again with Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines Inc., which operates the wholesale electricity spot market.
In another development, Delta P Inc.—a subsidiary of Vivant Corp.—has renewed with Palawan Electric Cooperative a power supply contract covering 13.5 MW for another year.
“We just passed a one-year extension contract with Delta P on their old contract with an energy contract of 13.5 MW,” Paleco board chair Jeffrey Tan-Endriga said in a statement.
