PPP Center offers to help local gov’t units

The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center is ramping up its support for local government unit projects after the Duterte administration shifted its biggest deals to alternative sources such as concessional overseas loans.

The PPP Center said its Project Development and Monitoring Facility (PDMF) can now assist local entities to implement PPP projects that focus on developing climate-resilient infrastructure projects.

At present, the agency is in talks with donors to obtain grants used for the regional PDMF to support local government projects.

For one, the Urban Financing Partnership Facility of the Asian Development Bank has approved a grant through its Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund.

This grant, which will be lodged through the PPP Center’s PDMF, will be made available to local PPP projects that will provide climate-resilient infrastructure to vulnerable communities.

It cited projects in the sectors of renewable energy, water, sanitation, solid waste management, open/green spaces, food security, flood control, disaster risk management and green vertical development.

The PPP Center is also in discussion with Agence Francaise de Developpement for a grant that will help increase its expertise on climate change projects both at the national and local levels.
