Fondly referred to by many as the “Queen City of the South,” Cebu has become an similarly progressive and bustling city as Manila.
Businesses from Metro Manila continue to set up shop here. And thanks to the growing population, there’s also an ever increasing demand for establishments and institutions, from malls and restaurants to property developers and health service providers.
One health maintenance organization that has brought its services to Cebu is MediCard Philippines Inc. It initially opened its Cebu clinic and sales office in 2013 along Pres. Osmeña Blvd. before moving in 2017 to its present location on Archbishop Reyes Avenue in Mabolo.
“Our goal is to build clinics in areas where we have high concentration of corporate clients, members and prospective members, such that they can access quality and affordable outpatient medical services near their offices or their residences,” explained MediCard president Dr. Nicky S. Montoya.
The opening of MediCard’s free-standing clinic in Cebu is due to the increased client demand for quality managed healthcare without breaking the bank. For MediCard, this also means means having a deeper connection with the Cebuanos.
“There is always the opportunity to add another layer of customers, or appeal to a new set of customers in Cebu,” said Doc Nicky.
MediCard Cebu’s sales office and free-standing clinic occupies two floors at FLB Corporate Center—Unit 204 has an area of nearly 120 sqm while Unit 704 measures almost 280 sqm.
MediCard’s members and even nonmembers can avail of their annual physical exam, pre-employment exam, medical exam, dental services, issuance of out-patient consultation referrals and issuance of out-patient laboratory/diagnostic forms from Unit 204.
Meanwhile, Unit 704 has the following services: executive checkup; consultations in internal medicine, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, pulmonology, ophthalmology, pediatric medicine, general practitioner and general surgery; laboratory exams for hematology, clinical microscopy, blood chemistry, serology, histopath and drug testing; and X-ray, ultrasound and 2D echo imaging.
Also being offered at Unit 704 are spirometry, ECG, nebulization, treadmill stress test and minor surgery.
Moving to a new location back in 2017 extends MediCard’s thrust to deliver quality service to its members. It is near a mall and is accessible by public transport, contributing to the area’s dynamic character.
Being MediCard’s first free-standing clinic outside of Luzon, the process of establishing the Cebu clinic involved closer attention and careful planning. And while there were risks, there were many advantages to deciding to push through with the expansion.
According to Doc Nicky, “One is being able to expand our clientele, tap new demographics and reach out to untapped markets. This also serves as an opportunity to see which product or service works best in the area.”
MediCard believes that entering the Cebu market was a good move because of greater reach not only in terms of numbers, but also in different cultures. “This mirrors our commitment to outstanding quality service wherever our clients are,” Doc Nicky concluded.
