Clark job fair set for displaced Hanjin workers

/ 05:20 AM January 24, 2019

Workers who will be displaced from the Subic shipyard of financially troubled Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines (HHIC-Phil) can find new jobs at the Clark Freeport, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said on Wednesday.

Dominguez said the government was developing  Clark into a massive mixed-use property zone and would need workers to carry out the project.

He said he had been informed by the Department of Labor and Employment  as well as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority  that a job fair would be held to help about 2,700 HHIC workers find new jobs.

“It (the workforce) is not that much, and they have skills. The demand is not only here but also abroad,” Dominguez said. —Ben O. de Vera
