Chevron wins Wellness Company of the Year at Asia CEO Awards

Chevron Holdings Inc. (CHI) recently won in the Asia CEO Awards 2018 as Wellness Company of the Year.
Asia CEO Awards is the largest business awards event in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Chevron was recognized for its health and productivity programs for its employees, which include programs and practices that integrate protection from work-related safety and health hazards and illness prevention efforts to advance worker wellbeing.

Chevron’s Global Health and Medical Department aims to provide health and worklife resources to Chevron employees and organizations around the world to improve productivity, reduce safety risks, and enhance a healthy work environment.

Chevron’s health and medical programs include Fitness for Duty (FFD), which provides globally standard process to enable employees to safely perform physical, psychological, and cognitive requirements of their job without risk to self, others, or the environment. It is composed of Preplacement Medical, Transfer Medical, For Cause and Return to work evaluation.

“We don’t use a generic routine medical exam procedure but a tailored fit assessment depending on the type of work the employee does. Aside from providing consistency within the organization FFD provides value by ensuring work fit between the individual employees and their task, thus achieving higher performance. FFD reduces cost associated with injuries,” according to Dr. Roy Mangubat, Country Medical Manager,CHI.

At Chevron, employees are encouraged to be healthy through cardiovascular program, vaccination services, and HealthTrails activity challenge. The latter is to encourage employees to engage in healthy behavior that will lead the way to greater sense of health, balance and wellbeing. Employees earn miles when they engage in some or all of the HealthTrails daily program goals like walking 10,000 steps, or drinking 48 ounces of water.

Weigh to Fitness is another gamified activity with focuses on practical nutrition and encouraging simple activities to attain weight loss. While in the Fruit a Day activity, the company distributes free fruits to employees to encourage good nutrition habits.

There’s also Zumba and Yoga classes and partnerships with with different fitness centers to provide employees access to affordable fitness facilities.

Chevron provides Primary Care and Occupational Health Services every day at the office; the clinic is open 24 hrs 5days a week to cater even to nightshift employees.

The company also has a Sickness-Absenteeism Management, where the HR and Supervisors are provided support in dealing with chronic absenteeism among some employees.

Another commendable program is the Repetitive Stress/Strain Injury Prevention Program—which is all about providing ergonomic lectures and equipment like the sit stand desks to employees, RSI prevention software (RSI Guard), and other ergonomic peripherals to really ensure that all potential RSI/MSD hazards will be mitigated.

There’s also Employees Assistance Program—which provides employees with services such as mental health / psychological counselling, financial, legal, and family counselling, as well as personal self-improvement session.

Chevron employees appreciate the health and wellness programs initiated by the company as they have helped greatly in employee wellbeing.
