GMA, ABS-CBN claim ratings leadership in November

The ratings battle between the operators of the country’s two largest television networks continued through November this year, with mega Manila remaining hotly contested territory.

GMA Network Inc. and rival ABS-CBN Corp. each released ratings data for the month of November.

GMA, which uses data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, said it was ahead in urban ratings while ABS-CBN, which gets its data from Kantar Media, claimed a lead nationwide.

In its statement, GMA announced an average total day people audience share of 38.6 percent in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (Nutam).

It said this was higher than ABS-CBN’s 37.5 percent.

ABS-CBN, for its part, claimed a 45-percent national audience share for November against 30 percent for GMA.

Mega Manila, which covers the capital district and its surrounding areas, was claimed by both media giants.

GMA said it posted an average total day people audience share of 45.3 percent versus ABS-CBN’s 28.5 percent.

On the other hand, ABS-CBN said data showed that it was ahead of GMA with 37 percent in mega Manila against the latter’s 29 percent.

Mega Manila includes Metro Manila, where ABS-CBN claimed a share of 43 percent against GMA’s 23 percent.

Apart from mega Manila, GMA underscored its lead across urban Luzon, where it claims an audience share of 44.1 percent against ABS-CBN’s 30.8 percent.

In its statement, ABS-CBN said it had kept its wide lead against GMA in Visayas and Mindanao. —MIGUEL R. CAMUS
