Benefits of an international Cisi qualification

/ 05:04 AM December 03, 2018

1. Global reputation

Although fairly new here in the Philippines, the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (Cisi) has built an overseas reputation for its education program from inception, sustained by the increasing globalization of financial markets.

Five years on from its birth in 1992, the International Capital Markets Qualification exams had been taken across 13 countries, as the qualification has become an industry standard.

The acquisition and assimilation of knowledge is one of the institute’s key strategic goals. The aim is for Cisi qualifications to be recognized as the global benchmark for wealth managers, financial planners and capital market, compliance or operations professionals.

Interest in operations qualifications, particularly the Investment Operations Certificate, has been fueled by the business process outsourcing sector in India and the Philippines.
Furthermore, here in the Philippines, the education sector is also a key area of focus reflecting the high demand for a qualified workforce.

Over 200 students from Far Eastern University participated in the Fundamentals of Financial Services offering in July 2017.

2. Employability

Helping to enhance the employability of those working in financial services is an important aspect of the institute’s objectives.

In addition, Cisi’s qualifications in operations are relevant and popular among practitioners within more than 50 of the leading banks, their subsidiaries, outsourcing firms and service providers signing up for Cisi qualifications.

The qualification is increasingly used as a benchmarking tool by major banks and investment firms to ensure that staff possess practical knowledge which can be immediately applied to business activities.

3. Lifelong learning

When the financial services sector needed to teach its practitioners professionalism and integrity, Cisi stepped up to the plate. That role is as relevant today as it was 26 years ago. Membership of the Cisi has grown from a mainly UK-centric 8,000 in the first year to today’s community of 45,000 global members across 116 countries. The qualifications are recognized in over 40 jurisdictions, with 11 National Advisory Councils worldwide.

The Cisi also lays heavy emphasis on supporting both students looking to start a career in financial services, and young professionals wishing to upgrade their skills.

Through partnerships with schools, colleges and universities around the world, Cisi offers qualifications and career education for young people to learn about the financial services industry.

This work is important as it allows young people to gain an understanding of the diverse job roles and employer opportunities available within the industry to realize their potential.

“The International Introduction to Investments module acted as my big ticket to the world of finance. The module not only increased my knowledge about finance but also developed in me an interest towards the field. Having a qualification from the Cisi makes it easier to excel within the industry,” said Khushal Wadhawan from Christ University in India.

Inquirer Academy is an accredited training provider of Cisi.

The academy will conduct a review class for those who wish to take the International Introduction to Securities & Investment Exam (which is a requirement for the Investment Operations Certificate) on Jan. 19 and 26, 2019.

Other certifications will be available in the future.
